Best Things I Heard This Week (Week 23, 2025)

I'm trying to get back in to the blogging habit again by doing some low-effort posting. Here are three podcast episodes from this week that caught my ear.
- Ensh*ttification, Live! Micah and Cory Doctorow in Conversation
- Cory Doctorow sits down with Micah Loewinger of WNYC's On the Media podcast to discuss enshittification, the term Doctorow coined that describes the process of tech companies making everything worse.
- Today Explained: Black schools, red states
- Florida governor Ron DeSantis appointed one of his political allies — a black woman — to be president of historically-black Florida A & M University. This episode of Vox.com's Today Explained looks at the in-state political fallout, and how other historically black colleges and universities are navigating the policy and fiscal challenges posed by 🍊 and his allies.
- What’s Driving Europe’s Political Shift to the Right?
- The good news is that we're not the only ones who've lost our political minds. Europe is also lurching rightward. Our long-running fallout from the Great Recession and Covid-19 pandemic continues.
- Bonus: The Age of Work
- Marketplace went to Utah County, Utah, which has the youngest labor force in the country and one of the highest rates of entrepreneurship. This series looks at what lessons Utah County might have for the rest of America. Hint: Mormon practices have something to do with it.
