More into strip clubs? All clubs listed below feature female dancers except for the Coronet Club and Swinging Richards. I have only been to one (Strokers). Information below is based on local reputation and/or the venue’s web site. (For your information: Atlanta strip clubs are all nude, but you can’t touch the dancers.)

Swinging Richards

1400 Northside Dr., Atlanta. Gay male crowd. Women aren’t banned, but bridal shower and raucous girls night out types of groups are. Please respect the space.

Coronet Club

5275-B Roswell Rd, Atlanta. All male dancers for a female clientele.

The Cheetah

887 Spring Street, Atlanta. The Cheetah is a ‘Gentleman’s Club‘ geared toward the business set. What does that mean? No poles. (Boo!) Rumor is that their upscale restaurant Alluvia is pretty good. Mostly white dancers.

Magic City

241 Forsyth St SW, Atlanta. Word is that Magic City is the premier strip club featuring black dancers. Ludacris filmed his ‘P-Poppin’ video here. The crowd tends towards ‘baller’ (as well as the ‘I just cashed my check so I can fake it’ set). I also hear the table dances and cover charge are higher than most places. Music = hip-hop.

Strokers

1353 Brockett Rd, Clarkston. It’s in a strip mall. Crowd: hip-hop. Dancers? Mostly black. Not as heavy on the eye-candy as Magic City is rumored to be. Dances are $10. Cover is $10. Music? All crunk.

Pink Pony

1837 Corporate Blvd., Atlanta, GA. Kind of legendary. I hear it’s fun. Dancers are mostly white.

I encourage all bloggers to go and be vocal about what journalists and businesspeople do and (sadly) don’t get about online.

Sex 2.0 will focus on the intersection of social media, feminism, and sexuality. How is social media enabling people to learn, grow, and connect sexually? How is sexual expression tied to social activism? Does the concept of transparency online offer new opportunities or present new roadblocks — or both? These questions, and many more, will be addressed within a safe, welcoming, sex-positive space.

I know there will be at least two people of color speaking, which I hope is a sign that race — and how sex and pornography are racialized as well as gendered — will at least be mentioned.

I will also try my best not to blush, giggle or tee-hee while attending.

Art in the City: Yoruba Art Celebration

A celebration of art forms descended from or shaped by Yoruba traditions. There will be a capoeira performance plus music by Afrobeat-Soul band Common Ground Collective and the pan-African Alájé Choir. Art lecture at 7 p.m. Thursday, 17 January 2008, 5 until 8 p.m. at the High Museum of Art, $18.

Calu’s Peep Show

Local burlesque dancer (of The Dollsquad fame) hosts a performance. Friday, 18 January 2008, 9 p.m. at Smith’s Olde Bar. $10 in advance.

Danish Film Festival

Lasting through the month of January, you can catch some new-ish and cool movies out of Denmark. $5 each screening. 18 January through 27 January 2008.

Octopus

A love story rendered through a post-modern gay lens, Octopus examines the fallout of one lustful night on four men; including risk, jealousy, a mysterious telegram delivery boy and a ravenous sea monster from the ocean floor. 24 January through 23 February 2008.

Sex Workers’ Art Show

Two words: Dirty Martini. She’s HOT. It will be good. Lots of burlesque, singing, maybe even some comedy and poetry. Some advice: Get there early. The last two shows were effin’ packed. At some point, they will need to hold this at a bigger venue or do two nights or something. Friday, 1 February, 2008; Probably $10 admission.

TRANSactions: Contemporary Latin American and Latino Art

The High is gettin’ all multi-ethnic on us. YAY! Works by at least a half dozen Latin American and Latino artists will be represented here including Maria Fernanda Cardoso, Enrique Chagoya, Iran do Espírito Santo, and Gabriel Kuri. High Museum of Art, 9 February through 4 May 2008.

And though not in Atlanta, I’ll remind y’all that Oktoberfest in Helen is still on through Nov. 4.

Come celebrate the launch of the brand new Museum of Design – Atlanta web site, which was lovingly hand-coded by yours truly.

The launch party is part of the Castleberry Hill Art Stroll and takes place at Noir. Complimentary valet. I’m hoping the food and drinks are also complimentary … or at least cheap.

We also launched a new look for our website (designed by Brad Sarmiento, developed by moi) that reflects our new approach.

I’ll save the more technical how-I-did-it stuff for another post. But I would like to hear your feedback about both web sites and whether you agree that the advertising industry is broken and what — if anything — you think we need to change.

They’re screening the director’s cut of Teri Rice’s The Kindling Point (lesbian, bondage and domination), which was filmed in Atlanta in the early 1990s. Also showing: the made-in-New Orleans cult classic Squishy Does Porn (some gay, some lesbian, some “pansexual”).

Also peforming: burlesque duo Good N’ Plenty.

They’re also serving red velvet cupcakes and sparkling wine too, y’all. 18 and over, since it involves porn and such.

No word just yet on who is speaking, but AiMA is usually pretty good at picking first-rate speakers. Plus they serve wine and beer during the networking sessions. I’ll update this post as details become available.

Actor Doyle Reynolds does an amazing job of playing a total of 36 characters in two acts. He skillfully uses changes in voice, body position and gestures to draw each character for the audience. It’s truly an incredible performance.

The Pulitzer Award-winning script is based on playwright Doug Wright’s interviews with and research about von Mahlsdorf and her life. He captures both von Mahlsdorf’s life and the controversy surrounding her receipt of a government medal and involvement with the East German secret police (the Stasi).

Wright leaves the questions surrounding von Mahlsdorf unanswered, but explains why Charlotte is so important to gay history and identity: “I need to believe that a man could survive two of the most repressive regimes the West has ever seen in a pair of heels.” (I think that’s the exact line.)

An all-star lineup of porn stars, prostitutes and purveyors of smut is coming to the A this month for the Sex Workers’s Art Show. It’s a cabaret-style variety show of performance art, literature readings, burlesque dancing and raunchy singing. Some stuff may make you say “WTF?,” but it will most definitely be a good time.
