Giving this IntenseDebate business a try

My comments are disabled right now. Why? Because I’m trying to install IntenseDebate. Apparently it takes a few hours to import existing comments into the IntenseDebate services. In the meantime, y’all can’t say nothing bad ’bout me … not here at least.

UPDATE: It looks like comments were broken because something went wrong during the import process. I used IntenseDebate 2.0 beta during the first install attempt and that failed miserably. I uninstalled ID 2.0 beta, installed IntenseDebate 1.75, the latest stable version, instead. Importing using 1.75 seemed to work. Then I decided to give the 2.0 beta another go. According to the settings panel, my comment import job is in the queue — it could take hours to be processed, and I will supposedly be notified by email when this happens. Of course, that didn’t happen the first time I tried the install.

Meanwhile, some comments still exist, but aren’t visible because of some IntenseDebate JavaScript and some older posts don’t yet feature the IntenseDebate form.

If these issues don’t work themselves out by tomorrow, I’ll uninstall the plug-in for good.

UPDATE 2: Yeah. Still not working for me. I never did receive an email notification alerting me that my comments had been imported. The one comment I did receive was high quality spam (the kind that you’re not entirely sure is spam, but adds nothing to the conversation but a compliment). I went to both my comment dashboard and the IntenseDebate dashboard and couldn’t find a way to delete the comment.

I reactivated IntenseDebate 1.75 and importing comments failed. So now, eff it all. I’m sticking with WordPress’ default commenting system for the time being.

  • Definitely do NOT install IntenseDebate on your blog! I did and ID erased comments from a previous post, will not allow comments on new posts and IntenseDebate support has been no help whatsoever. I cannot uninstall IntenseDebate. Save yourself the headache: avoid IntenseDebate!
  • As you can see, I finally made it work -- after I upgraded my WordPress install, that is.
  • I did'nt have and problems at all with the install... took only a few minutes. I', using the jacascript version though as I run custom blogging software.
