SxSW 2008: Some of my favorite moments (a.k.a. The name check post)
Seeing John Resig and saying “Hi. You’re awesome!” … Thanking Chris Wilson for the new IE8 policy … Finally having a conversation with Jeremy Keith and his lovely wife Jessica … Becoming a founding member of the Brown Girls Who Think Pete Cashmore Is Sexeh Club (and yes, Funky Brown Chick is also a founding member) … $1 shots of Patrón at Ninety Proof … Dancing to Grupo Fantasma at the Frog Design party until I was sore with Jason and Melle … Seeing Tim Ferriss (and that chick in heels!) break it down and show the b-boy young’uns how it’s done at that same party … Being one of the hot black chicks dancing in the window
at Co-op … Meeting Melle for the first time IRL … Having Tiff Fehr introduce me to some of my web heroes … Wondering whether a certain dude was flirting with me or Angela Benton … drooling over a tall cutie with funky hair (Too bad he’s married. Boo! Fail!) with Denise … seeing Baratunde rock the dance floor while wearing a pink feather boa at the Frrvrr party (which I am convinced is the subtlest satire ever conceived of by The Onion) … Being able to say “Yes, I know Clarence.” … Spending five minutes with Andy Budd … Planning a blogfam Thanksgiving with Cecily, J and EJ … The cupcake + candy store + Guero’s field trip with Lainie … Meeting Cheryl for the first time … Drunk coding in the Radisson lobby … Meeting Nii Simmonds at Mohawk after missing his panel in favor of one of the horn-dog sessions … Correctly identifying 5 of the 6 fonts used on the Mekong River menu with Erica … engaging in a group hug with Smokler and about a dozen other geeks … making a Tiff-n-Dave sandwich at the Media Temple party (which I’m sure has been Flickr’d and tagged by now…not as hot as it sounds). … Drinking a shot of tequila purchased by Tchad who was a total stranger until about 10 minutes before he bought me that shot … Getting in gear to flirt with one of the cute Dutch boys from Soocial until he casually dropped a sentence with the words “wife” and “kid.” Finding out from Lynne on Thursday night that I was now a panelist … Being one of those 20+ black Americans (along with George who started it) singing ‘O Canada.’ … Booty dancing with one of the Canadians the BSU serenaded.
I’m also feeling a bit like a lame jacka** for missing out on quality face time with Christian, Ernie, Stephanie and Barb. I’m also bummed about not cashing in on a free drink promised by Sarah — though in fairness, all of the parties had open bars.
Eventually I am going to sit down with my notes and recap some sessions / riff on some thoughts I had while in these sessions so my employer doesn’t think that drinking Tito’s and tequila was the only thing I did in Texas. But for now, I’m still basking in and celebrating the love.
