New gig
I mentioned it briefly in a link dump a couple of days ago. I am now an interactive developer at Fletcher Martin, an ad agency downtown (and yes, we know we need to do something about that site. It’s been the same since at least 2000).
I left Georgia Tech last month because I thought it was time for me to move in a different direction. I’d like to do more with interactive marketing and mobile, and well — that’s what I’m starting to do.
Working at an ad agency is interesting. It’s different from newspapers and education. In my office, especially, there’s almost a hyperactivity amongst my coworkers that I’m still getting used to. For about two years, I worked in a basement office that was quiet but for the occasional series of grunts from the football team. Now I’m in a cubicle where there’s this constant activity, brainstorming and folks trying to get into their creative groove. A bit of a switch from the dark hovel (I say that affectionately, and it did have a door!) in which I used to work.
What’s cool is that the interactive department is new. So far it’s me, my manager and our brand new interactive project manager. In some ways, I’m Queen of the Code, and I’m able to set standards for how we’ll build web sites.
So far, so good. Let’s hope they don’t fire me
