- Voice Encryption May Draw U.S. Scrutiny
- Philip R. Zimmermann, creator of PGP, has created a new encryption scheme for VoIP.
- Cluster Effects and Browser Support (IE-only social software is idiotic)
- Danah says:
When it comes to social software, i’m not just concerned with what browser i use, but with what browser my friends use. I may not be concerned directly, but i need them to play along too to get validated and to make it fun.
- Understanding “Any order columns”
- How to have three columns arranged in any order you’d like … although I suppose this directly conflicts with the idea of ‘linearized’ content: making sure your page makes sense when viewed without style sheets.
- Gonzales Says Prosecutions of Journalists Are Possible
- You know, for this to be the land of “freedom,” our gubment is acting an awful lot like the repressive regimes we claim to despise. Between Guantanamo, NSA, and this Gonzales threat, we’re acting like the U.S.S.R. circa 1983. Perhaps the worse part? We don’t believe we’re there.

- Pretty much any single browser based web property is stupid. It completely undermines the main strength of the medium (universal accessibility). One assumption that he fails to mention is the one that 90% of all people will always use IE.
- There is pretty much no level of encryption that isn’t breakable in almost real-time by the government. The Government has systems with 100,000+ CPUs running in parallel, decrypting data is almost a non-issue.
- It looks to me like the any order column thing appears to further enable “linearized” content as it is purely style-driven and therefore has no effect on the way the page is displayed without styles.

yeah, and this is why we don’t blog until after our first cup of coffee.
actually, i remember what i meant… “conflict” wasn’t the best way to phrase it.
when you style your document, what makes sense visually may not make sense when your content is linearized and vice-versa. so revise that to read: “don’t rely on styling to order your content. make sure your content is linearized when unstyled.”
(and btw, the person who wrote that IE-only post is a woman.)
