JAWS Camp part III: Day one of the actual camp
Like I said in the previous post, registration didn’t start until 3 p.m. We (Nadirah and I) got back to the resort around 4-ish.
Dinner was at 6, if I’m not mistaken, but before dinner we had a cocktail reception. The reception allows members to meet, mingle, network and renew old friendships.
Our location meant that we had an opportunity to sip some divine Oregon wine. Pinot Noir, Pinot Gris, Reisling and Chardonnay were on the menu. According to oenophiles, Oregon’s climate is a lot like Burgundy, France. And we know about Burgundy’s reputation for good wine.
Oregon marked JAWS’ twentieth camp. We celebrated with a hokey-in-a-good-way presentation written by JAWS member (The Lovely and Talented) Jane Marshall, and a sing-a-long of “I Am Woman” by Helen Reddy
In case you haven’t put two-and-two together by now, JAWS, or the Journalism & Women Symposium is an organization of broads, dames and womyn in journalism. Members include trailblazers and trendsetters in the field. We/They are dedicated to making sure women’s voices are heard in the newsroom, and that our stories are covered in the media.
But mostly, they’re a blast to hang out with.
